Tribute to POP ! & Pride.

We have all heard enough about MJ's recent passing in the news and on blogs so I thought I would relieve you by illustrating a new pop icon: Lady Gaga. She may not be the most talented, but her image is awesome and hey - not bad to dance to either! If your interested, this song pretty much sums her up.
I really need to save up for a good Wacom tablet - or dare I say it, a Cintiq! - because digitally painting with my right hand on a laptop tack pad is no easy task!

Here is the original sketch. While on BART - of course in the Berkeley station - an older woman gave me a lecture on creating "an image that is impossible to live up to." I understand the potential for negative impact, but isn't that what our pop culture is all about?

Hope everyone had a happy/ wild/ safe Pride weekend ! !

My new art spot

Huntington Park! Just 8 blocks or so from my apt

The paintings are beautiful inside Grace Cathedral! The artist used a technique that resembles caran d'Ache strokes rather than blocks of color.

The shadows from the stain glass windows... When I get too hot from the park, I plan to "seek refuge" from the sun in here. It's quiet so It'll be a good spot to write / brainstorm

And finally Huntington park - across from Grace Cathedral - is my new art/ writing spot. If the weather permits it I'll make the majority of my comic sitting here this summer.

Just for fun, here is a building I can see out my new SF apartment window.

A Real Lake & an Imagined Ocean

Mountain Ranch, California. A 2 day get away to visit my mum and the beautiful lake she lives by! My Brother Ben and I rowed around the lake aimlessly dictating directions row directions to each other (I made him do it for an extended time so I could get in this watercolor sketch in.)

This one is pretty exciting: The first thumbnail sketch of my new summer project! I don't want to give anything away too early on in the brainstorming process, so I'll just call it my contemporary Atlantis project until I decide to reveal more.

I fleshed the thumbnail out a bit more on photoshop to set the mood.
