Recently, my AP art exhibit at Piedmont High School was censored. The administration removed an AIDs awareness painting of mine in mid exhibit without citing a just reason, or even informing me of their actions. This leads me to question Piedmont High School's supposed openness to freedom of expression, sexuality, and sex education.
What is so offensive about this painting that it required confiscation? In light of my nude figure paintings surviving the administration's secret screening test, perhaps it was the orgiastic sexual intercourse. In which case, this topic has already been taught to Piedmont's students in social psychology with fairly scientific and otherwise mundane teaching methods. It seems that as soon as sex is presented in a pleasurable fashion it becomes an issue.
Ignoring the AIDs epidemic will not make it disappear. I trust that my school's students are mature enough to understand the message presented in this piece. I am requesting that Mr. Booker allows me to display this painting in Piedmont's final showcase.
