Sketchcrawl #23 !

I actually had work on Sketchcrawl's official date, so I did mine the previous day with my Art-Partner-In-Crime-Dongyi-!
Sketching in transit from my apt to our destination -the new Academy of Sciences!

Live sketches from the wild forest dome

Aquatic animals from the sea section of the Academy & geese from the Botanical Gardens

A Fishe's view at the Academy

The Academy is an incredible place! If your ever in S.F. you have to check it out! Well worth the $20 admission. After an exciting / productive day we crashed for a nap in the Botanical Gardens
Hopefully next time around I'll get to make the real Sketchcrawl, but this art session certainly made up for missing it.

Tribute to POP ! & Pride.

We have all heard enough about MJ's recent passing in the news and on blogs so I thought I would relieve you by illustrating a new pop icon: Lady Gaga. She may not be the most talented, but her image is awesome and hey - not bad to dance to either! If your interested, this song pretty much sums her up.
I really need to save up for a good Wacom tablet - or dare I say it, a Cintiq! - because digitally painting with my right hand on a laptop tack pad is no easy task!

Here is the original sketch. While on BART - of course in the Berkeley station - an older woman gave me a lecture on creating "an image that is impossible to live up to." I understand the potential for negative impact, but isn't that what our pop culture is all about?

Hope everyone had a happy/ wild/ safe Pride weekend ! !
