A WEAPON OF MASS CREATION

20 min pose (post coloring done @ home with my new toy) at the Latino Cultural Center in the Mission
It's a cute little Friday night fig drawing sesh with a live Conga class next door, a drum / dance beat class above, & a little kids cultural dance performance below. I know it sounds redundant, but this spot really is booming with culture and color! 3 of the kids from the performance below burst in through the door (in full costume) thinking it was a different room & were stopped dead in their tracks when they caught sight of the nude model - after a 2 second pause they ran out giggling and screaming. Cute.
My first digital painting on the new toy! I think I have some unconscious obsession with Frankenstein because I sometimes catch myself doodling the creature while spacing out...

& Without further ado my new
A 12x Cintiq !! It's beautiful. I'm in love. The cintiq is very fast too - I'm confidant I'll speed through my next storyboarding gig with ease :)

Here are some additional figure drawings I did last night at a cute little sketch group in SOMA:
1 min. pose

2 min. poses

10 min. pose
This SOMA sketch group -- unbeknownst to me -- I sat in on has been drawing together since 1987!! That's 2 years before I was born! Turns out most of the members are art school graduates, above the age of 55, and gay. I could tell this was their little weekly social gathering that they all looked forward too. I called before hand to reserve a spot and they wrote a name tag for me and set up a nice spot in the back. On the break we all went into the kitchen and ate ice cream. It was a fun experience and I think they were happy to see a fresh face join the class! Not to mention it was cool to hear about all these art schools & what they were 40 years ago.

Longer 20 min. poses

I'll end the post with a work in progress, It's a painting I did in high school with a live model that I feel the urge to touch up

A Swell of news! + Work as a storyboard artist

Here's a random sketch because I like to begin my posts with art!
My next semester is a bit foggy in terms of a linear plan because I have requested a leave of absence from Pratt Institute. I use the word fog because it is a natural phenomenon that has the capability of revealing paths and whole cities while keeping others a mystery. I dislike how Pratt treats illustration as a sub division of graphic design rather than it's own major, or an art form more closely related to fine art. I seek training in the fine arts with an illustrative edge - and the Art Center in Los Angeles seems to fit my vision best. I'll be applying for the spring semester at Art Center while returning to NY a free-man! "Free" despite my current job at Diesel & some freelance storyboarding / modeling to keep busy & happy. So who knows, when the fog lifts I may find myself living in Los Angeles or Brooklyn. Here are some dance jumps I did to celebrate my journey through 3rd semester.
I'm still sore from these jumps...
I've started my semester off well: I got a paid gig storyboarding for a creative production company Fifth Column! I can't display the storyboard anamatics i digitally colored, but it was for a Xzyal commercial (allergy medicine.) It'll be interesting to see how the live action version compares frame by frame to the anamatics.
My mentor once told me that you will learn a lot from picking up a job and making errors + correcting them. So true! I'm confidant that I'll be able to execute my next storyboarding gig in about half the time as this commercial took. I discovered some neat time saving tricks while working - not to mention my Cintiq tablet should be coming in the mail today!!! !!!!
